Septimus Heap ~Book One~ Magyk

Magyk is one of those books I’ve been hearing about from friends for a while but just never gotten around to reading. The book has the feel of an old faerie tale that’s been revamped with sarcasm and modern day spice. While mainly aimed at kids in the lower teens the novel was still enjoyable to me. Especially the cat, Bert. You have to love a cat who’s been turned into a duck that habitually attacks unwary enemies. Way to go Bert…… Anyway Mrs. Sage (There’s a pen name for ya!) did a wonderful job in keeping the old time atmosphere of classical myth while seeding in ridiculous things such as Shield Bugs, Boy 412, and Petroc (A walking pet rock). I’ll stick to my principal of not giving away plots and spoiling stories for others, but anyone who’s read books before can see the novel’s plot twist from a mile away, or actually the first few chapters. Still I like that confirming feeling of knowing that I’m right after finishing a book…. seem to get that a lot
